Bowers Group can trace their history back to 1905, part of the Spear & Jackson group, it is a leader in the field of measurement, supplying calibration and verification tools to organisations across the globe.
Optima Design was approached by Bowers Group to reimagine the aesthetics of a range of their custom measurement and calibration tools. Our task was to modernise the design of their Figura Surface Form & Geometry verification machines, aligning them with Bowers Group’s established brand identity while refreshing the product for its UK market debut.
Optima Design collaborated closely with Bowers Group to fully understand their brand values and the practical needs of their tools. Our approach focused on three key areas:
Aesthetic Consistency: We carefully crafted the new look to align with Bowers Group’s established house style, ensuring both brand consistency and product distinction.
Modern Refresh: While preserving the product’s technical integrity, we introduced a modern design language, incorporating simpler lines, prominent logos, refined textures, and premium finishes, making the tools both visually appealing and ergonomically sound.
Market Relevance: The updated design was tailored to fit the modern UK factory environment, where appearance and functionality are equally important.
Our industrial design team used a combination of sketches and photo-realistic CAD renders of initial concepts which were presented on a short-timescale, with the chosen concept been developed to the finalised design.
The redesigned measurement and calibration tools now feature a sleek, modern aesthetic that aligns with Bowers Group’s brand while appealing to UK manufacturing professionals. This successful collaboration demonstrates Optima Design’s ability to blend functionality with striking design, helping to introduce innovative products to new markets. The new designs are expected to influence the direction of future specialty measurement tools in the Bowers Group portfolio.
The Figura products were succesfully launched in 2024 and recieved widespead attention from manufcaturers interested in theier advanced measurement and component validation capabilities. They provide roundness, cylindricity, straightness, and flatness measurements, among other complex geometrical metrics. Featuring a marble operation table and a floor-mounted anti-vibration system, they ensure accurate measurement with a stable and reliable performance. The high-precision detector, paired with fully automatic centring and levelling, simplifies setup, and enhances measurement accuracy.
