At Optima we have undertaken the design of several test loops for the oil and gas industry for a variety of clients. On each occasion the client has supplied us with a design brief and a P&ID and we have undertaken the routing of pipes and design of supporting structures and general mechanical engineering. The systems are often highly complex, utilise a broad range of standard and bespoke components and generate complex assemblies of hundreds, or even thousands of parts.
Using 3D CAD allows us to design and check the structures to ensure there are no clashes, assembly conditions are proven and the client can get a thorough understanding of the project as it progresses. This ‘visibility’ to the client of these large and costly structures is seen as a major benefit as design and construction issues can be discussed and resolved in advance of build commencement, saving time and potentially reducing future issue on site.
