BAE SYSTEMS – Terrier

Design and analysis of a front loader system

Background

Optima have a long standing relationship with BAE Systems, specifically within Land and Weapons. For the Terrier project, a specialist vehicle utilised by engineers for various building, moving and construction activities, Optima were approached to undertake complex FEA on the Front Loader System (FLS).

Approach

The FLS endures extreme loading conditions. When designed it has to be reliable, fit for purpose and take advantage of low cost manufacturing techniques where possible.

Outcome

We delivered a fully analysed mechanism taking into account the complex system geometry as a whole, including the interrelationship between the individual component parts and linkages.
